There is plenty of evidence out there that demonstrates that students experience a summer learning loss, especially from grades three through eight. As we head into another summer, the challenge is encouraging kids to do things that minimize summer learning loss while still making sure they get the much-needed break. EdCuration features several edtech solutions that help parents and K-12 schools minimize learning loss during the summer.

Ascend Math

Ascend Math offers personalized online math instruction that provides each student with a unique study path through skill gaps at each level. Individual study plans are prescriptive, adaptive, and automatically assigned. For the gifted student, students with special needs, and students who are using the summer to recover credits, Ascend Math is a powerful resource that helps boost math skills.

IDL Numeracy

If you have a child or student who suffers from dyscalculia, IDL Numeracy can help them maintain and build their math skills throughout the summer. The software can be accessed from anywhere and includes a fully graded course to support students with interactive activities that are fun and engaging.

Starfall

Starfall helps students learn to read. All of the basics are free and open to the public. Parents can access hundreds of additional activities for more advanced reading, grammar, mathematics, and more with either a low-cost, one-year membership or an app subscription.

Little Sponges

Little Sponges is an online language program for bilingual students specifically for early learners in preschool through 3rd grade. They provide videos, songs, games, learning activities, and quizzes to help students learn language, content, and literacy skills in L1 and L2 in Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, Japanese, and Arabic.

BrainPOP

BrainPOP offers programs for school and for home for students in K-8, BrainPOP makes learning fun and engaging while having a significant impact on test scores. Students using BrainPOP improve their SAT language and reading comprehension scores by up to 24 points.

Yes, summer is about having fun and getting a break from the classroom. But the summer learning slide is real, and having access to edtech that is fun for students and accessible outside the classroom can help keep your children’s brains engaged and excited about learning.

Of course, we know that teachers never really get time off, but summer is the time to take advantage of opportunities for professional development. Be sure to revisit our blog that highlights the professional development opportunities available through EdCuraton.
