According to Edutopia, by 2025, one out of four children in U.S. schools will be an English language learner (ELL), and many educators are growing increasingly accustomed to having these students in their classrooms. But being accustomed to having ELL students in the classroom and being able to effectively support them are two different things.

That’s why we’re so excited to introduce BOOKR Class to our community. BOOKR Class is platform designed by teachers for teachers with input from literacy experts and child psychologists. It helps schools and teachers to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in the most effective way. It helps alleviate the burden from teachers who are challenged to meet the needs of these students while also making learning English fun, exciting, and engaging.

More than Just Learning English

Most students who are learning English as a second language are thrust into a new environment. They’re not only being forced to learn a new language, but they’ve often had their entire lives disrupted. It’s about more than just learning the language; it’s about helping them successfully acclimate into their new culture, school, and community. That’s why one of the most important elements of BOOKR Class is the emphasis they place on social-emotional learning, helping English language learners concurrently develop 21st-century skills as the stories introduce new cultures, raise awareness, and develop creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills.

Measurable Success Rates

Students who use BOOKR Class consistently perform 20% better on reading comprehension tests than other students. A recent study of 34 schools {42 teachers and 2219 students) using BOOKR’s discretely animated interactive books revealed that BOOKR Class:

  • develops students’ language awareness,
  • has a positive transfer effect on students’ reading comprehension skills;
  • can be implemented in the classroom by teachers and meet the goals and requirements defined by the National Core Curriculum and Curriculum Framework.

BOOKR Class Supports Education Curriculum Beyond English Classrooms

BOOKR Class features a range of Content- and Language-Integrated Learning (CLIL) books that systematically introduce learners to a variety of subjects, including history and science, across three distinct reading levels. In this way, not only are students improving their language skills but also generalizing their new language aptitude across their complete range of studies.
